The Makai has been serving the youth of San Francisco Bay Area for over 70 years.
The Sea Scout program is apart of the Scouts BSA movement. As part of that movement we seek to teach leadership, personal management, and nautical skills.

This is the Makai
She is a retired US Navy Torpedo Retriever (TR-4)
The Makai is the main vessel of the program. She is 65 feet in length and powered by 12V71 Detroit Diesels.
The crew have sailed this vessel from San Francisco to San Diego and back.
Most cruises occur over weekends and include port calls such as: San Francisco, Angel Island, and Sausalito to name a few.

This is the Sequoia.
She is a 45 foot Dufour Ketch rigged sailing vessel.
The scouts sail this vessel extensively learning the art of sail. We use this boat interchangeably with the Makai.
The Sea Scout Ship Makai is a part of Sea Scouts, a division of Boy Scouts of America. Our goal is to teach each of our members leadership and life skills through the art of seamanship.
The Sea Scout Ship Makai has a few vessels including a 65 foot power boat and a 45 foot sailboat. The Makai crew goes on day cruises, overnight trips, and the annual summer cruise. Crew does all planning and navigating for the trips, and operates the vessels. The Makai works on rank advancement and participates in regional regattas. We also perform community service throughout the year.
